A song that reminds me of my 1st job

Well, my first job after leaving school at least. Peterborough used to have (and might still) a live music event in the town center called the "Lazy Sunday Afternoon" (named after a great Small Faces song) which started while I was working at the BBC (British Beef Co). Among the acts who visited were this group who were on the edge of the charts with this song at that time and other acts like Curiosity Killed The Cat (remember them?).

I was familiarising myself with the BBCs 5 to watch at this time last year and unlike this year there were a few worth listening to. This was my favourite.

When I first looked at the list of categories this was one of the first to come to me. The earliest song I can remember from my childhood. My brother bought home a pink vinyl copy which was played many, many times.

Not sure I am ever caused to feel guilty by a song but I like this one and the lyrics seem to fit.

Tricky one this 'cause quite frankly what do I care? I ain't gonna be there. So here's another of my favourite bands with an appropriate(?) number.

Carole and I ran down the aisle to this because we hadn't practiced and were determined to use it.Ahh memories...
The Eve of the war from Jeff Wayne's War of the worlds. You have to wait 40 seconds before it starts but it's worth the wait. What a great live version!

Day 22 A song that you listen to when you are sad.

Another song that tugs at my heartstrings. As a parent I can't help wondering "what if?" occasionally and being grateful I didn't have to find out.

About the closest I get to this category is music induced road rage and this song does a pretty good job.

Day 19 A song from your favourite album.

Another category that could be filled by so many choices.
I chose this because this band really haven't had the recognition in the UK they deserve.

I can't believe these guys haven't had more success. I love their music and this song is just beautiful.

A feel good song

So today I was listening to music as I usually do, songs played randomly by itunes I think it was this time and this number came up. I thought, "I haven't heard this in a while, oh I love this song". So that's what this blog is all about. A song that strikes me on each day as either a great new tune, a fantastic oldie or just "that sums it up" whatever it is that day.

Day 17 A song that you hear often on the radio.

This song seems to be on every time I turn the radio on these days.

Day 16 a song that you used to love but now hate.

As a teenager I had a thing for Carol Decker and so listened to this song time and time again. Oh, the folly of youth!

Day 15 a song that describes you.

This song doesn't so much describe me as describe how I spend my working days.
Stornoway - We are the battery humans.

Day 14 a song that no-one would expect you to like.

If you know my general dislike of anything pop idol or x-factor it may surprise you to hear I like this song from an early contestant.

Day 13 A song that is a guilty pleasure.

As bad and corny as they were I still can't help liking this song, it evokes sentimental memories of Carole and I as a young couple. Right Said Fred - Deeply dippy.

Day 12 A song from a band you hate.

This song from this group of aging rockers proves that before they sold their soul to commercialism they were able to write creative original music. You'd never know it now! Status Quo - Pictures of matchstick men

Day 11 a song from your favorite band.

Another category which took a lot of deliberation. I don't have a particular favorite but this is 1 of several. I would love to see them live.

Day 10 a song that makes you fall asleep.

Music doesn't have that affect on me so I've chosen one I can chill to.

Day 9 A song you can dance to.

This is another song by The Cure which I can't help tapping my feet and sometimes dancing to in a "Rock City" manner.

Day 8 A song that you know all the words to.

This song always makes my top 5 and almost made the top slot for this challenge. Del Amitri - Nothing ever happens. That's life...oh, and I know all the words.

Day 7 A song that reminds you of a certain event.

A bit predictable perhaps but the event I am choosing to remember is my wedding. This was the song Carole and I walked back down the aisle to after the ceremony.

This song reminds me of nights out in Peterborough with my brother, Jason. We always listened to this song while getting ready to go out drinking in bars like Rumpoles and Joes Garage before hitting Shanghai Sams for a late night boogie etc.

This song always reminds me of my Dad (Ray).

Day 4 A song that makes you sad.

The lyrical content and Tracy Chapman's voice make this a capella song one of the most emotional I know.

Day 3 A song that makes you happy.

This song gets me every time. I can't help singing along and often dancing in my "Rock City" manner. One of the best bands of all time The Cure with In Between Days. Classic!

Day 2 My least favourite song

If you've not heard me say it before, I hate singers who warble! The likes of Whitless Houston, MyIdon't Carey and Sealion Dion. Learn to hold a note for Pete's sake! This song makes my least favourite because the British public in their infinite wisdom decided to keep it in the charts for soooooo long, forcing me to hear it far too often!
